The new constitution amendment requires the president and governors to submit the names of persons nominated as ministers or commissioners within 60 days of taking the oath of office for confirmation by the senate or state House of Assembly.
The amended constitution started clearly that the President must Nominate ministers within 60days.
Olusegun Obasanjo who was elected in 1999 submitted his first term ministerial list within 6 days and the second term was submitted within 25 days, he also reduced the number of Ministries to 48.
President Umar Musa Yar’adua who is elected in 2007 submitted his ministerial lists within 59 days of his swearing and he reduce the Number of Ministries to 37.
President Goodluck Jonathan who governed Nigeria from 2010 to 2015 submitted his first term ministerial list within 3 days and reduce the number of his Ministries to 30.
President Muhammadu Buhari who was elected in 2015 and re-elected in 2023, submitted his first term ministerial list in 124 days with his sworn-in as a result of the delay in the submission of handover Notes and he released his ministerial list within 22 days of the second tenure he also increased the number of Ministries to 44.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who was elected and entered office in 2023 is yet to send his ministerial nominees to the Senate for screening and confirmation less than 48 hours before the deadline.
