The Chief Judge Yobe State who is also the chairman Administration of criminal justice monitoring committee has Discharged seven inmates and granted fourteen bail of various offence in Potiskum, Gashua and Nguru correctional centers on Prison Visit in the state.
The State Chief Judge was accompanied by the committee members to Some of the Correctional Centers in the State.
He Further said the visit aim to Decongest the correctional facilities and to see the condition of the inmates in the State.
Those Discharged were six inmates from Potiskum medium correctional center and one from Gashua centre who spent more than six month without been taken to court.
While three from Nguru, four from Gashua and seven from Potiskum medium correctional center were Granted bail.
Justice GK Kaigama assured to continue collaboration with the office of the Attorney general and Commissioner for justice in assistanting the correctional facility in the state as well as the welfare of the inmates in yobe State.
He Further advised the Judges, Magistrate and Shariah court Alkalis to always be guided by law while discharging their Duties without fear or favour.
He urged them to minimize unnecessary conviction and emphasize on non custodial sentence,plea bargain and to consider conviction as a last resort.
In his welcome address,the state controller correctional centers, Mr. B.Kitsam commend Governor Mai Mala Buni and the Yobe State government and the Administration of criminal justice monitoring committee for their various support to the correctional facility in yobe state and solicit for the renovation of dilapidated hostel at Gashua correctional center.
Controller B.Kitsam commended the Yobe State Chief Judge and his team for the visit as this would help in Decongesting the centers, adding that the Potiskum medium correctional facility with capacity of five hundred inmates, that will accommodate seven hundred and eighty six inmates, Gashua center with capacity of one hundred and four now accommodate two hundred and fifty nine and Nguru with capacity of ninety three inmates,now has one hundred and fifty one inmates.
The Chief Judge was accompany by the Grand khadi who is ably represented by Khadi Abba Mammadi; Attorney general and Commissioner for justice represented by the Director Public Prosecution Bar.Abdullahi Yusuf; Commissioner of Police represented by OC legal Bar.Suleiman Ibrahim;State coordinator Human Right Mr.Babangida Labaran;all High Court Judges, Magistrate and Shariah court Alkalis.
