The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Yobe state chapter has commenced its Engineering week in Damaturu, the state capital.
Shortly after the opening ceremony, the Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers Yobe state Council (NSE), Engr. Mai Modu Gujba, said government must engage
trained and certified engineers that can deliver professional proficiency in order to propel and accelerate growth and development in critical infrastructural sector of the country.
Engr.Baba Gana Mai Modu,who expressed the determination of NSE in asserting its prowess in the body of knowledge and intellectuals, said Nigerian Engineers were major stakeholders in the development process and that they should be given their rightful place in governance.
He canvassed for a strategic collaboration between the government government and NSE on the construction of affordable houses to check the growing housing deficit in the country, noting that NSE had presented its developmental roadmap to the federal government in an attempt to facilitate jobs.
The four-day-program holding in Damaturu are as follows:
Carrier guidance at government girls college,Damaturu.
Philosophic visit to Yetim Foundation schools,Damaturu.
Visit to yobe state state specialist hospital Damaturu.
Visit to Damaturu Regional water supply well field at sumsumma and the Memorial lecture in the honour to Late Engr.Madu kawu FNSC,OON.
During the technical session of the Engineering week,experts in various fields of engineering delivered papers.
“The Briefing will enable Engineers to formulate a procedure and process that will ensure the development of our state based on science and technology.
We want to commence the domestication of development and with that we need to affirm that we are also major stakeholders in building the project, yobe.
As such we don’t want to see people who are not professionals to take our rightful place in government.
“Governor Buni mustered the vision to propose the policy of bringing 100,000 Yobeans out of poverty in the next 4years.
