YOBE:BUNI LAUNCHED VACCINATION AGAINST ANTHRAX IN YOBE

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state has formally launched the vaccination exercise against Anthrax as well as the 2023 tree planting campaign, at Kukareta village in Damaturu Local Government Area.


While flagging off the ceremony against the Anthrax disease reported in some parts of the country, Buni said ‘‘we have decided to take this proactive measure to protect our people and livestock, and also to safeguard the economy of our livestock farmers’’


He use the event to provide a special opportunity to take urgent and concrete steps to prevent the spread of Anthrax disease from other parts of the Country into the State, as well as the control of desert encroachment.


Buni further said, the Yobe state government contracted and procured 1,500,000 doses of ASV vaccine to cover the vaccination exercise on the estimated livestock population of about 7,000,000 in all the 17 Local Government Areas of the State.


He called on all Veterinary Doctors, animal health workers, and other stakeholders to work hard to ensure that all nooks and crannies of the State are fully covered in this state-wide exercise, adding that Yobe state is one of the leading States with a high population of livestock in the Country, we shall continue to take proactive measures against outbreaks of animal diseases and to give full protection to our livestock.


Meanwhile, Governor Mai Mala Buni has demonstrated the commitment of his administration to combating desertification, desert encroachment, drought, and other climate change-induced challenges, by mobilizing the entire Yobe State citizenry to intensify efforts in planting trees to increase vegetation cover.

 

He said the theme of this year’s campaign is ‘’Plant a tree today for our sustainable future and development’’ meant to underscore the need for increased tree planting for a better environment and ‘‘to enable us to achieve our sustainable development goals before the year 2030 as recommended by the United Nations’’


He enjoined all the 17 Local Government Caretaker Committees, the Ministry of Environment and its agencies as well as the Ministry of Home Affairs, Information and Culture, and the media outfits to intensify sensitization and enlightenment of the general public on tree planting and prevention of negative human practices against the environment.
