The North East Development Commission has flagged off the distribution of 4,170 food items and other palliatives to twenty organized groups and tertiary institutions across the 17 local government areas of Yobe state.
The Commission’s Coordinator in Yobe State Prof. Ali Ibrahim Abbas, stated this at the symbolic handing over of the donated items to 20 organized groups in Damaturu.
Abbas said the items were 25kg bags of rice, cartons of spaghetti/macaroni gallons of vegetable oil, and pieces of blankets.
He said the distribution became necessary to cushion the effect of the subsidy removal in the country as directed by Vice President Kashim Shattima.
Recalled that Vice President Kashim Shattima flagged off the distribution of N15 billion palliative donated by the NEDC to the six northeast states in Maiduguri a week ago.
According to the NEDC’s State Coordinator, the distribution will cut across thousands of households in the state through stakeholders, traditional leaders, and civil society organizations CSOs
He added that the beneficiaries include; Yobe State Judiciary, Christians Association of Nigerian (CAN), Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union, and all the tertiary institutions in the state.
