OISD TRAINS FEMALE JOURNALISTS IN YOBE.

The Organization for Innovation and Sustanable Development(OISD) sponsored by the Public Affairs Section of the US Embassy Organized a 3- day training for female journalists in Yobe State.


The training which was tagged "SHE EXISTS" promoting equity and equal opportunities for women in media was aimed to train Female Journalist in North-east Nigeria which are Adamawa, Gombe, Taraba, Bauchi, Yobe and Borno respectively.


The Training drew 35 participants across the State and was held at Royalton Halls and event centre Damaturu, Yobe State.


The Executive Director OISD Mr Jamilu Yusuf in his welcome speech welcomed the participants to the training and advised them to make good use of the training.


In his words  "SHE EXISTS is not just a program; it is a commitment to change, a dedication to breaking barriers, and a testament to the resilience of women in media. Our journey has been one of collaboration, shared learning, and the collective effort to foster gender-sensitive reporting and equitable representation in journalism."


The Senior Information Specialist of the U.S. Embassy Dr Aishah A. Gambari in her opening remark welcomed all the participants, assured them that the training will be of benefit to them and also plea with them to put into practice what they are to learn.


The Chairman Nigerian Union of Journalists Yobe State Council (NUJ) Comrade Rajab Muhammad in his remark thanked the organizers for organizing such training and also called on the participants to pay attention to it and make use of it.


Speaking on behalf of the participants, the Chairperson Nigerian Association of Women Journalists Yobe State (NAWOJ) Fatima Muhammad Ahmed said the training has created avenue for sharing of ideas experiences, discuss challenges women face in the media industry and the way forward to change the narrative and advocate for more women in managerial and editorial positions so as to participate in decision makings and manipulate the contents of the media to ensure gender balance.


Papers where presented by the Senior Programme Manager OSID Dr Ernest Ogezi, Programme Manager OSID Leslie Jonah and Ibrahim Abukar.


Many papers were presented and some of them includes; Ethics of gender sensitivity reporting in the media, The Application of using ICT in Modern Journalism, Importance of women leadership in media stations in Nigeria.


Certificates were issued to participants at the end of the training.
