Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has reaffirmed the commitments of his administration through providing quality, accessible, and affordable healthcare services to the people.
Buni stated this in a meeting with traditional leaders on primary healthcare services at the government house in Damaturu, the state capital on Monday.
He said his administration decided to establish at least one functional Primary Healthcare facility in the 178 political wards across the state, saying 139 hospitals have been completed and commissioned out of the 178 proposed.
According to him, the Yobe State government entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Aliko Dangote Foundation, and UNICEF in August 2021 to further strengthen integrated Primary Healthcare services in the state.
While commenting on the achievements of his administration, Buni said ‘‘It is also gladdening that the Modern Maternity and Child Care Complex is fully equipped to further support our efforts in checking the menace of maternal and child mortality and morbidity in the state.
‘‘I am pleased to state that we have in the 2024 budget allocated 15 percent of the budget to the health sector to enable us to achieve the Abuja declaration, the Universal Health Coverage (UHC), and indeed the health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)’’ he said
He appreciates the efforts of traditional rulers for the support and cooperation extended to the state government, and especially the continuous sensitization of the public to access and own the Primary Healthcare Centres.
