President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; Sultan of Sokoto Muhammadu Sa'ad Abubakar III; the governors of Borno and Yobe States Babagana Umara Zulum and Mai Mala Buni, among others were among the dignitaries who would graced the 38th National Qur’anic Recitation Competition in Damaturu.
The State Commissioner Ministry of Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Hon Abdullahi Bego, disclosed this while briefing journalists at the NUJ secretariat in Damaturu, the state capital of Yobe.
He said the event which will kick off on Friday at 27th August Stadium will receive President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who will serve as a special guest of honour, while Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State will serve as chairman of the closing ceremony.
He added that the Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III will serve as a special royal guest while the Minister of Police Affairs Senator Ibrahim Geidam will serve as the chairman of the opening ceremony.
According to Bego, about 296 participants drawn from the 36 States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are to feature in Ten (10) Categories of the Competition.
He said Yobe has 8 participants in the competition and with the level of support training facilitated, saying the State is optimistic that they will emerge winners.
The Commissioner said the Yobe State Government will host the 38th National Quranic Recitation Competition, saying since 2003 the State has not hosted the event as a result of Boko Haram attacks.
Meanwhile, The State Government has directed the Chief Medical Directors (CMDs) of the various healthcare facilities to select competent and dedicated healthcare providers from different secondary health facilities that will carry out free medical services throughout the Qur’anic recitation competition.
