Yobe Governor swears in 17 LG caretaker chairmen

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State on Monday evening swears in the 17 chairmen of local government caretaker management committees at the government house in Damaturu, the state capital.
During swearing-in governor Buni, admonished that the only way to the heart of the people was not through the traditional art of political deception but by standing by the people and working for them.
“Politicking is around the corner from now to five months but we should remember that there is no better politics than the contentment of the masses; there is no greater politicking than working for the overall interest of the people.
‘‘I urged you all to rededicate yourselves to the cause of good governance and to the cause of attending to the needs of our people, especially now that we are even being faced with the challenges of fuel subsidy removal and food security,” Buni said.
He also charged the newly inaugurated council members on peace buildings, Empowerment, water supply, and ending the Farmer-Herder Conflict.
Iam optimistic that you will inject the wealth of experience you have acquired over the years in Local Government administration into practice to add value to service delivery, and peaceful coexistence”.
“As we strive to improve food sufficiency and security in the state, l urge you to support farmers in your respective local government areas to embrace irrigation farming. The state Government is prepared to partner and support all councils going into irrigation farming”.
“On this note, I hereby direct the Ministry of Agriculture to map out effective and practical strategy for partnership with the local government councils for very successful irrigation programmes and projects across the state”.
“You are advised to imbibe the principles of accountability, transparency, and due process to be on the same page with this administration, and with commitment to the execution of people-oriented policies and programmes to improve the lives of the people”.
“Let me warn that government will not compromise prudence, nor tolerate diversion or mismanagement of public resources.
You should key into our policy of cost-effective governance.
“You should make governance less expensive and put more resources into projects and programmes that have direct bearing on the lives of the people.
The Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs is hereby directed to supervise the performances of the Management Committees”.
“Furthermore, you should ensure that all Federal and State Governments policies and programmes are adequately implemented in the interest of the people, as you strive to explore and deepen lnternally Generated Revenue sources in your areas”.
“Before I conclude this address, I wish to express my deep appreciation to the Right Honourable Speaker and Honourable Members of the Yobe State House of Assembly for the speedy deliberations and approval for the appointments.
