195 Female Students Lost Everything in Yobe Varsity Fire Incident, VC Expresses Dismay

No fewer than 195 female students of the Yobe State University, Damaturu have lost their properties and belongings in the recent fire inferno incident in the institution.


The Vice Chancellor of yobe State University, Professor Mala Muhammad Daura, stated this while briefing newsmen at the conference Hall of the institution on the incidents that razed the female hostel completely.


He said out of 195 legal occupants of the hostel who were the victims of the inferno, 5 of them were asthmatic students who inhaled high smoke and have been discharged from the hospital after receiving medical attention. 


He said no life was lost as a result of an incident that the cooking gas cylinder explosion might have caused the recent fire incident in the institution, saying all students were safely evacuated from the building.


‘‘All the students are safe, but based on explosions at the scene one cannot rule out gas cookers at the hostel, which is natural with students’’ He said


Professor Daura said the university has settled the displaced students to a decent accommodation within the institution to continue their studies, adding that the management of the university has set up a committee to ascertain the actual cause of the incident

and to prevent future occurrences.


While commending the state government and other philanthropists for supporting the victims, the vice chancellor called on the state government to renovate the accommodation for the benefit of the institution.
