Troops from the Nigerian Army's Sector 2, Operation Hadin Kai, successfully neutralized four ISWAP terrorists and rescued several passengers who had been kidnapped in Buni Yadi, Yobe State, located in the northeastern part of
The country.
Counter insurgency expert and security analyst in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, cited intelligence sources which confirmed that the confrontation occurred in Lamisuri village within the Gujba Local Government Area.
On the morning of Friday, February 16, 2024, around 10 a.m., terrorists using a tricycle and motorcycles intercepted and hijacked several vehicles carrying passengers on the road leading to the Yobe state college of agriculture near Buni Yadi.
Responding swiftly, a military patrol team was dispatched to pursue the terrorists using the escape route indicated by intelligence reports.
The team managed to locate one of the hijacked vehicles, a green Volkswagen Golf with the registration number BBU 353 HD, which was transporting two women and children.
The passengers were found abandoned as a result of the military's aggressive pursuit.
After escorting the victims and the vehicle to a secure location, the patrol team resumed their mission to track down the remaining terrorists and attempt to recover the other hijacked vehicles and passengers.
The troops' persistence paid off near Lamisuri village, where they engaged the terrorists.
In the ensuing encounter, four terrorists were killed, and a tricycle containing stolen food items was recovered.
Some of the terrorists are believed to have fled the scene with gunshot wounds.
Although the remaining two hijacked vehicles were not at the encounter site, tracks indicated that they had moved towards the Meleri community, close to Goniri village.
The military team continued their pursuit along the vehicle tracks to Meleri village.
There, they received credible information that two vehicles—a Golf and a Honda—had been seen escaping with passengers from the Lamisuri encounter site.
One vehicle was reported to be heading toward Buni Yadi while the other was seen going in the Direction of Damaturu, passing through Katarko village.
The military is reportedly intensifying their efforts to rescue the remaining victims and recover all hijacked vehicles.
