As Nigeria joins the global movement to commemorate International Women's Day 2024 with the theme "invest in women: accelerate progress" the Yobe State Ministry of Women's affairs in collaboration with Save the Children International celebrate the day with the women in the society.
The program was an interactive session between the career women that are successful in different career aspects in the State and School Children to discuss the challenges, prospects and also to inspire the children on how to be successful in the future.
The Honourable Commissioner Ministry of Women affairs Yajalo Badama who was represented by the Director Women affairs Fatsuma Hassan Yusuf said the program is a significant program as they want the children to gain confidence and know that they can be part of any profession and be treated equally.
The Commission also called on the children that are not present to be self encouraged to study every aspect they want as they will be allowed to practice equally.
She also called on the parents to please allow their children to study further in other to help the girl child education.
The Safe the Children International Advocacy and Mobilization Community Officer Yobe State Abdulwasiu Ogungbemi said they reached out to career women in the society through the Ministry because International Women's Day is an avenue to create awareness and equality for women, which is giving women the opportunity to participate in decisions making, politics among others.
In his words stated "we know that women have been left behind but gradually they are picking up so we want to accelerate that pick up, development, empowerment and self reliance".
One of the participants Aisha Muhammad Abdullahi a member of the children parliament Yobe State called on the government to consider women's participation in every aspect as she also call on her fellow children to study hard and be encouraged to practice every career they wish to in other to be successful in the future.
The event took place at Royalton Hall and event center Damaturu Yobe State.
