The office of the Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Yobe State Governor has issued a stern warning to the public, particularly metal scavengers, commonly referred to as "Baban Bola," cautioning against the collection and transportation of scrap and other discarded metal items from external locations into the state.

In a statement released by the Special Adviser on Security Matters, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (Rtd), the advisory was deemed necessary following an incident where abandoned unexploded ordnance, collected by unsuspecting scavengers migrating from deserted areas of the Sambisa forest to the Goniri area in the Gujba local government area of Yobe State, detonated, resulting in injuries to five individuals.

General Abdulsalam urged the public to promptly report any suspicious objects or movements of individuals within their communities to security agencies across the state.

The Special Adviser highlighted that the military Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit is actively engaged in efforts to safely detonate any potential devices that may have been abandoned in communities affected by the Boko Haram insurgency in the state in previous years.
