Yobe Gov't Trains 170 Smallholder Fish Farmers in yobe

The Yobe State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources  in collaboration with Hafsum Agricultural Enterprises have organised a one day capacity  building and support to smallholder fish farmers in Damaturu.

Declaring the training open at  the Yobe Children's Academy Gashu'a Road in Damaturu, the Hon. Commissioner Ministry of  Agriculture and natural resources, Alh Ali Mustapha Goniri stated that the training is part of the Agricultural revitalization scheme of the Yobe state government under the able leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni.

Ali Mustapha Goniri further explained that the present administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni CON will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the Agricultural sector is revatalized for enhanced economic activities in the state.

The Hon.Commissioner said government will work towards providing the enabling environment for the expansion of Fish farming in the state.

Earlier in his welcome address , the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Agriculture and natural resources Dr Musa Abba Kollere said  Yobe state is blessed with riverine at all three political zones which qualifies  for Aqua-Culture.

The Permanent Secretary said when fully adopt, fish farming will  boost food security, reduce unemployment and economic growth of the States.


Dr. Musa Kollere called on the participants to pay rapt attention and embrace fish farming especially that most of them are retired civil servants.

The participants were provided with 100 fingerlings, feeds and fish pond among others as starter.
