Family Planning Advocacy Journalists Holds First Roundtable Discussion in Yobe

Yobe State family planning media stakeholders on Wednesday held a maiden Media roundtable discussion to deliberate on the issues related to child birth spacing practice in Yobe state.
Speaking at the media roundtable discussing in Damaturu, the leader of Yobe state Family Planning Lead Team, Mr. Mustapha Yusuf, said the meeting was organized to ensure that members of the family planning team deliver on the project's outlined objectives.
He said the meeting was initiated by DEVcom with the support from TCI and the Yobe state government.
Malam Mustapha, said the state government and its partners are supporting the effort by providing drugs to all the facilities in time.
While appreciating the commitment of family planning media team members, Mustapha said journalists are the standing pillars in driving the child birth spacing campaign in the state.
“The efforts put up by the media in their reportage is quite commendable reaching to people with appropriate message.
"However, we still have to scale up independent reports highlighting successes and challenges faced by women in embracing the practice.
"Let’s work hard to bring out the gaps so as relevant authorities and partners can come in with required support.
“The essence of the campaign is not about population control as insinuated in some quotas but it’s a campaign to instill in our people the idea of giving room for the women to take control of their health and that of their children with support from their husbands,” he said.
The Program Manager Of Challenge Initiative (TCI), Dr. Philemon Mamza Yohanna, said their operational goals is to ensure that they bring about comprehensive health coverage in the state and the country at large.
He stated that,”We work with Government to make sure that government able to see our health intervention that we bring about comprehensive achievements”.
On her part, Aishatu Audu Saleh, Deputy Director Family Health, Yobe state Ministry of Health and Human Services, said the state has achieved a lot because of the intervention of some partners and efforts of the state government.
“We are moving down to the community to sensitize, educates and distributes commodities to the service delivery.
