Anthrax Disease: Yobe Gov't, L-Press Unvail Free Door-To-Door Anthrax Vaccination Exercise

The Yobe State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources in collaboration with L-Pres world Bank project unvail a free door to door anthrax vaccination exercise to livestock across the 17 local government areas of the state.

The decision was taken during a stakeholders engagement meetings at state secretariat Fadama conference hall in Damaturu.

The permanent secretary ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr Musa Abba Kollere while speaking during the meeting said the exercise was to further consolidate on the existing measures put in place by the Executive Governor of Yobe state, Hon. Mai mala Buni CON who donated over 1million vaccines of Anthrax to the ministry for on going vaccination in the last 6months ago.

He said the vaccination launched by the governor and has been going on was as a result of report of an outbreak of the disease in some African countries such as Burkina-faso, Ghana among others.

The Permanent Secretary, represented by the Director Veterinary Services of the ministry, Dr Ibrahim Goni reassured the ministry's readiness to carry out the door to doors free Anthrax vaccines in all the seventeen local government areas, adding that with the logistics support offered by L-Pres Yobe state, all personnel are ready to ensuring a free anthrax zones.

Dr. Goni disclosed that Yobe state have the largest numbers of veterinary doctors with about one hundred and sixty five, while over one hundred are undergoing studies sponsored by the Yobe state government.

The meeting which was carried out under the one health Family approached was attended by the Director Public Health from ministry of Health Dr Hauwa Larai Goni, G.M YOSEPA Alhaji Babagana Modu from the Ministry of Environment.

The Director Public Health, Dr. Hauwa Larai Goni while speaking highlighted the prevention measures of contacting diseases from animals to human, saying all animals diseases are communicable either through air bone, water, eating meats or associating with the animals as a whole.

While speaking, the G.M YOSEPA Alhaji Babagana Modu dwelled on environmental friendly ways of handling animals killed by Anthrax or contacted the diseases to avoid contractions and other method of proper hygiene

in her remarks, the state project coordinator SPC, Adama hussaini Madaki expressed appreciation to the present administration of Executive Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni CON for approvals as well as provision of logistics and adequate counterpart funding for the project.

Adama Hussaini madaki assured Yobeans of all support to livestock farmers to ensure productivity across  the state and the country.

All representatives of herder associations of the seventeen local government areas were present at the engagement meeting where some cluster formation schemes were created for easy identification, access to donors intervention among others for boasting their productivity and value chain of livestock development in the state.
