The Nigerian Army headquarters of Sector 2 OPHK has Mark the 2024 Joint West Africa Social Activities (WASA) at the August 27 Stadium Damaturu to showcase unity in diversity.
The Sector 2 Commander,Maj Gen MCE Ejike expressed delight at witnessing the end of the year 2024 joint WASA.
“This event provides an opportunity for social activities of officers and men of the Nigerian Army to wine and dine with their families and friends as well as showcase their cultural heritage as Nigerians,” Ejike said.
He reiterated that Sector 2 headquarters of the Nigerian Army conducted all its activities for the year 2024, which was successfully executed in line with Army Headquarters.
Ejike commended the bravery and dedication of the troops, saying “the sacrifices and dedication to duty of our troops cannot be quantified.”
He also appreciated the yobe State government for its continued support to the military in the state.
The commander urged all security agencies to maintain the level of synergy and collaboration, which is pivotal to achieving overall security success in the state.
Ejike described WASA as an opportunity for Nigerians in the army to come together and celebrate their achievements for the year 2024.
“WASA has fostered socialisation and commitment as everyone is being carried along to build the required synergy for all of us to operate not only in the field but also where we socialise.
The WASA is an avenue to get together with families, showcase our cultural heritage and to promote peaceful co-existence among the troops, their families and our friends generally under a non-conflict but a social and more relaxed atmosphere away from the noise of battle.
The successes recorded within Sector 2’s Area of Responsibility were resounding, despite the complex security operating environment, Ejike said.
To a very large extent, current and ongoing operations have proved to be very effective, notwithstanding unavoidable losses in men and resources.
He assure the troops are set to consolidate the operational gains so far made, and to maintain the tempo for prompt response to the security challenges within the State in this year.

The Commander said it is necessary to remember and pray for the souls of our departed colleagues and for our former amiable Chief of Army Staff, late Lt Gen TA Lagbaja CFR who suddenly passed-on in his prime.
Here in Sector 2, we lost several gallant colleagues including Lt Col TE Alari, Capt B Godwin, Lt AS Maidawa, Lt EO Olayiwola, Cpl Auwal Abubakar, Pte Elom Anthony among several others. May the souls of all our departed heroes continue to rest in perfect peace. Amen.
Furthermore, I would like to respectfully and most sincerely, appreciate the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen OO Oluyede NAM for his continuous support and unwavering commitment in enhancing professionalism and regimentation in the Nigerian Army.
Ejike reiterate the encouragement of the Chief Of Army Staff through his quality visionary leadership towards building a highly motivated force, that will effectively accomplish the Nigerian Army Mission, which is ‘’to win all land battles in defence of the territorial integrity of Nigeria, protect her national interest and accomplish other tasks in aid of civil authority ‘. This will remain the fulcrum of our operations here in the Sector.
He also thank the COAS for his avowed stance to bring about a speedy end to insecurity in Nigeria.
In his remarks,the Special Guest of honour the Yobe State Governor,Mai Mala Buni, commended the Nigerian army’s efforts in improving the security situation in the state.
The Governor who was represented by Aji Yerima Bularafa, Commissioner for
Wealth Creation and employment generation,
cited improvements in security by the Buni’s administration saying there is travel safety, farming activities, and harvests across the State.
The Governor said WASA has fostered unity and cohesion among the army, promoting a sense of oneness among Nigerians.
WASA is an annual event organised by the Nigerian army to celebrate the diverse rich cultural heritage of Nigeria.
The event brings together officers, soldiers, and their families in a relaxed atmosphere to celebrate and mark the end of the year’s 2024 activities.
Highlights of the event included cultural displays, dance performances, regimental activities by the troops and presentation of awards to officers for their outstanding performance.
Buni appreciation the Commander Sector 2 Operation HADIN KAI Major General MCE Ejike and by extension the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General OO Oluyede for tackling the various security challenges confronting the State and the Nation at large.
He also Commend President, Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) for supporting the Armed Forces and providing leadership.
He assured his continuous support to the military and other Security agencies in defeat the Boko Haram Insurgency and restore total peace to Yobe State in particular and the North East in general .
