Gov. Buni Meets Security Chiefs On Reopening Of schools In Yobe

Governor of yobe state Mai Mala Buni has today met with the heads of security agencies, traditional rulers and heads of education sector to deliberate on the safe schools policy and possible reopening of schools which were closed temporarily to prevent attacks on the schools.
The meeting took place at the conference hall of Government House Damaturu.
The meeting was convened and chaired by the Deputy Governor, Hon Idi Barde Gubana ( Wazirin Fune) who stood in for the Governor.
In his opening remarks, the Governor noted that, the meeting was summoned to discuss modalities for the reopening of schools as directed by the Federal government across the country. It could be recalled that the schools were earlier shut down over the security threats.
He assured parents, guardians, and the general public that safety, welfare and well-being of students remains a top priority to the Government " we will continue to work closely with the relevant security agencies, community leaders and education stakeholders to sustain stability in the state" the Governor added.
This administration according to the Governor, recognises education as a critical pillar for peace and national development. Therefore we will intensify effort to forestall any security threats to thier academic activities.
After the deliberation, the Deputy Governor directed the commissioner ministry of basic and secondary education, Associate prof. Abba Adam Idris, to brief journalists on the outcome of the meeting.
The commissioner explained that all schools will be reopened on monday - 5th January - 2026. Arrangement has been concluded for providing security to all schools with the support and cooperation of school management, parents and guardians among other stakeholders.
Shading more light, the special adviser on security matters, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (Rtd) said after careful consideration and consultations with other security agencies as well as education stakeholders, students are safe to resume, the details of security measures will not be made public. He said.
The expanded meeting was attended by the emir of Fika and Chairman Yobe state council of traditional rulers, Dr Muhammad Abali Ibn Muhammad Idrissa, commissioners of higher and Basic education, executive chairman, SUBEB, ALGON Chairman Yobe state chapter, executive secretary science Technical schools Board and representative of chairman TSB.
Also in attendance were the principal of
NTIC, FGC,Gashu'a, FGGC,Potiskum, FGC, Buni Yadi and ANCOPS Chairman respectively.
The heads of security agencies are members of the regular routine security council meeting.
