FUG Governing Council Appoints Geidam As New VC

The Governing Council of the Federal University Gashua has approved the appointment of Professor Yaqub Ahmed Geidam as the new Vice-Chancellor of the University, following a duly constituted, transparent, and competitive selection process.

The decision was reached at a statutory meeting of the Governing Council presided over by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Barrister Ibrahim Usman, in strict compliance with the provisions of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act and other relevant extant regulations.

Announcing the appointment, Barrister Ibrahim Usman, explained that the selection exercise was rigorous and merit-driven, with careful consideration given to academic excellence, leadership capacity, administrative competence, integrity, and a clear vision for the advancement of the University.

He noted that the appointment reflects the Governing Council’s commitment to due process and its resolve to position the University for sustained growth and global relevance.

Profile of the New Vice-Chancellor.

Professor Yaqub Ahmed Geidam is a seasoned academic, administrator, and scholar of repute with several years of experience in teaching, research, and university administration. He is a renowned professor of Veterinary Medicine with over two decades.

Prior to his appointment he serves as the dean Faculty of veterinary medicine at university of Maiduguri. He has also held several key administrative positions.

Professor Yaqub has an impressive record of scholarly publications in reputable national and international journals and has contributed significantly to research, innovation, and community development. His leadership style is widely regarded as inclusive, visionary, and results-oriented, qualities that the Governing Council believes will further strengthen the University’s mandate in teaching, research, innovation, and community service.
