Gov. Buni Unveils Landmark 77km NEDC Highway Linking Damaturu,Buni to Magza

In a major boost to infrastructure development and regional connectivity, Governor Mai Mala Buni has flagged off the construction of the 77-kilometre Damaturu–Gujba–Buni Yadi–Magza Road, a landmark intervention by the North-East Development Commission (NEDC) aimed at accelerating recovery and economic revitalisation in Yobe State.
The symbolic ceremony, performed in the presence of the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Mohammed Goni Alkali, drew top government officials among the Deputy Governor Hon. Idi Barde Gubana, the Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly,Hon.Chiroma buba,head of service,Secretary to the state government, Chief of staff,NEDC Executive Director, Administration and Finance, Garba Iliya, alongside other senior officials of the Commission and the state government.
The Damaturu–Buni Yadi–Magza corridor remains one of the most strategic routes in Yobe State, linking communities, markets, and agricultural hubs.
The 77km project involves asphalt overlay and extensive rehabilitation works, including filling of materials, provision of sub-base and base courses on shoulders, construction of earth drains, and the laying of 40mm thick asphalt.
The Commission has already commenced Phase I of the project, covering 25 kilometres, with contractors fully mobilised to site.
Upon completion, the road is expected to ease transportation challenges, reduce travel time, stimulate trade, and improve access to social services for thousands of residents across the benefiting communities
