Yobe Microfinance Bank Unveils Plan to Deepen Financial Inclusion, 2026

The Yobe Microfinance Bank has unveiled 2026 Transformation Plan aimed at positioning the bank as one of the leading state-owned microfinance institutions in Northern Nigeria.
The Managing Director of the bank, Mr. Sheriff Almuhajir, disclosed that the strategic initiatives are designed to strengthen financial inclusion, expand banking access, and improve service delivery to individuals, small businesses, and rural communities across State.
He Further said the transformation programme is being implemented under the visionary leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni, CON whose administration has prioritized economic empowerment, financial access, and sustainable Development for the good people of yobe state.
Mr. Sheriff explained that a key component of the reform agenda is the bank’s ongoing effort to meet the N1 billion recapitalization benchmark set by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), noting that the bank has already achieved about 80 percent of the requirement.
This is part of the Deliberate transformation effort of the bank is expanding its presence across the state to ensure that financial services reach more communities, particularly in rural areas,” he said.
He revealed that seven new branches will be established in Buniyadi, Damagum, Nguru, Yunusari, Nangere, Fika, and Machina, while units and payment centres will also be created in major urban and local markets to make banking services more accessible to traders and entrepreneurs.
The Managing Director further stated that the bank will introduce portable banking kiosks to support Point-of-Sale (POS) operators and small-scale financial service providers in markets and remote communities.
In addition, the bank plans to deploy electric vehicles for loan recoveries and staff operations, as well as electric motorcycles to improve staff mobility and facilitate efficient monitoring of micro-credit beneficiaries across the state.
He also announced plans to establish an ICT and Financial Literacy Centre that will partner with professional financial bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
The centre will focus on financial education, digital banking awareness, and capacity building, particularly for youth, entrepreneurs, and small business owners.
He emphasized that the transformation agenda aligns with the broader economic development policies of the Buni's administration, noting that the initiatives will significantly boost financial inclusion, support small businesses, and strengthen the local economy in Yobe State.
