The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana (Wazirin Fune), noted that the state government’s investment in the institution to meet personnel needs in health facilities across the state consistent with reforms initiated in the health sector is yielding positive results.

He further stated that the government’s investment in the college over the past seven years has proven worthwhile, impactful, and beneficial to the people of the state.

According to him, the state government has, in recent years, employed over 3,500 healthcare workers, with many graduates of the college among the beneficiaries, to provide adequate, qualified, and professional manpower in health facilities.

Governor Buni explained that his administration has deliberately invested in the health sector to ensure functional, efficient, and effective healthcare services are accessible to the people.

He added that, in a bid to address healthcare challenges, the government established a world-class Biomedical Research and Training Centre (BioRTC) at the State University, whose permanent site was commissioned a few months ago to promote research and train young scientists in the state.

The Governor assured the college management that the state government would consider all its requests and address the issues raised, pledging continued support to make the institution a leading health training centre in Nigeria.

He also commended the outgoing Provost of the college, Hajiya Hadiza Sabo, for successfully completing her two-term tenure and for leading a management team that has set high standards of academic excellence.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for the Ministry of Health and Human Services, Dr. Mohammed Lawan Gana, stated that Yobe State emerged as the best-performing state in primary healthcare delivery in Nigeria, based on an independent survey conducted by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum under the Federal Government’s National Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative, earning the state a $1.2 million prize.

Earlier, the Provost, Hajiya Hadiza Sabo, disclosed that between 2019 and 2026, the college has graduated a total of 1,485 students, all of whom received automatic employment upon completion of their studies. She noted that this has significantly improved the recruitment, deployment, and retention of healthcare personnel in the state.

The ceremony featured the commissioning of projects, the launch of a compendium magazine highlighting the achievements of the administration, and the graduation of students, including the first set of HND nurses, as well as basic nurses, midwives, and community nurses.

The state government purchased 10 copies of the magazine at a cost of ₦10 million, while the Chief Launcher, Liman Machina Dabuwa of Damuli Investment Company, purchased five copies at a cost of ₦1 million, among other contributions.
